No one could have predicted that our world would come to a pause because=
of a virus, that millions of lives would be forever changed, that economie=
s would be severely impacted, and social interactions would take a complete=
ly different form.
Our journey has taken a different turn, and Expo 2020 will now run one y=
ear later than expected, from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022. But this has=
only strengthened the significance of our founding promise – to conn=
ect minds and create the future.
Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for Intern=
ational Cooperation Director General and Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau, said: “At Expo we know we need to deliver better than w=
hat was planned before. We have the chance to respond to how our world has =
changed. And so we must seek new definitions of success. We must create an =
opportunity for the world to come together, not just physically but also vi=
rtually. We must achieve tangible positive outcomes. We must inform wisely =
and inspire utterly, a world that deserves better than it has today.”=
We continue to make strong progress as we prepare for a new Expo that wi=
ll reunite the world in 2021, with far-reaching precautionary measures allo=
wing us to keep all event preparations on track while ensuring the health, =
safety and wellbeing of everyone working throughout the COVID-19 crisis.
We are excited too about the deeper impact that our new World Expo=
will have on shaping a better post-pandemic world, as we bring the world t=
ogether to tackle some of the world’s biggest challenges.
Now, more than ever, we stand as one. At Expo 2020, we look forwar=
d to harnessing that power of collaboration and innovation, helping us emer=
ge from this crisis stronger than ever.
